The authors deal with the eigenvalue problem of Laplacian in an unbounded domain which becomes thinner at infinity (its shape is like a horn). The typical cases are \[ \Omega=\{(x,y)\in\mathbb{R}^ 2\mid| xy|<1\},\quad\Omega=\{(x,y)\in\mathbb{R}^ 2\mid| y|<e^{-| x|}\}. \] In such a domain, the Laplacian with Dirichlet boundary condition has a compact resolvent and so the spectrum consists of discrete series of eigenvalues. They give elaborate analysis on the case of Neumann boundary condition where strikingly different spectral phenomena occur from the case of Dirichlet.
