\textit{S. Gudder} [Int. J. Theor. Phys. 44, No.~12, 2199--2206 (2005; Zbl 1110.81014)] put a question if the subalgebra of a sequential effect algebra generated by a commutative subset is itself commutative. Using standard algebraic constructions, the authors demonstrate in the paper under review that the answer to the question is positive. Another theorem says that, in a sequential effect algebra, the equality \(na=nb=c\) with \(n\geq 2\) implies that \(a=b\) whenever \(a\) and \(b\) commute and \(c\) is sharp. It is shown by examples that neither of the three assumptions in the latter theorem can be discarded.
