The authors consider natural generalizations of diffeomorphisms of the circle. These generalizations are called ``diffeomorphisms with breaks'', where the first derivative presents jumps at finitely many points. \textit{K. M. Khanin} and \textit{E. B. Vul} [in: Dynamical systems and statistical mechanics, Pap. Semin. Stat. Phys., Moscow/USSR, Adv. Sov. Math. 3, 57--98 (1991; Zbl 0733.58026)] show that for diffeomorphisms with one break, the renormalization operator converges to a two-dimensional space of the fractional linear transformation. The authors generalizes this result for diffeomorphisms with finitely many breaks. For this, they consider a piecewise smooth homeomorphism on the circle as a generalized interval exchange transformation. This paper is divided into 5 sections. The introduction motivates the problem, introduces crucial definitions and gives the statements of the three main results. Section 2 contains several results on the composition of diffeomorphisms of class \(C^{2+\nu}\). These compositions are also compared with the Möbius maps. Sections 2 and 3 are devoted to prove the main theorems. In the process, the authors give a study of the renormalization of generalized interval exchange maps of genus one and present a scheme to codify the dynamics of generalized interval exchange maps.
