The authors investigate the delayed cellular neural network (DCNN) described by the equations \[ \frac{dx_i}{dt}=-c_ix_i(t)+\sum_{j=1}^na_{ij}f_j(x_j(t))+\sum_{j=1}^nb_{ij} f_j(x_j(t-\tau_j(t)))+J_i, \quad i=1,\dots,n, \] where \(x_i(t)\) represents the state of the \(i\)th neuron at time \(t\), \(f_j\) denotes the activation function of the \(j\)th neuron, \(a_{ij}\) and \(b_{ij}\) are constant connection weights, \(J_i\) is the external input on the \(i\)th neuron, \(c_i>0\). Necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for the existence and uniqueness of an equilibrium point. Sufficient conditions for the global exponential stability are obtained for a wide class of activation functions by constructing a Lyapunov function and applying the matrix measures approach. These conditions are independent of the delays. Two numerical examples illustrate the advantages of the proposed method in comparison with other known results.
