The paper under review is part of the author's study of Fox-type problems for Lie algebras, see also [\textit{H. Usefi}, Int. J. Algebra Comput. 18, No. 2, 271--283 (2008, Zbl 1176.17012)]. For a Lie algebra \(L\), let \(U(L)\) be the enveloping algebra and \(\omega(L)\) its augmentation ideal. Also, let \((\gamma_n(L))_{n \geq 1}\) denote the lower central series. The main result is the following. Let \(S \subseteq L\) be a Lie subalgebra, then \(L \cap \omega^2(L) \omega^n(S) = \gamma_{n+2}(S)+ \gamma_{n+1}(S \cap [L,L])\). The proof relies on filtrations on the enveloping algebra, and is sufficiently general to carry over to other categories of algebras, such as finite \(p\)-groups, see [\textit{H. Usefi}, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 212, No. 10, 2182--2189 (2008, Zbl 1148.20002)].
