For a given finite group \(G\), a chromatic level \(h\) and a complex orientation of the Morava-Lubin-Tate theory \(E_{h}\) the author considers the equivariant genus \[ \phi_G : \pi_* MU^G \longrightarrow MU_* BG \longrightarrow E_{h *} BG. \] The target group had been studied by \textit{M. J. Hopkins, N. J. Kuhn} and \textit{D.C. Ravenel} [J. Am. Math. Soc. 13, No. 3, 553--594 (2000; Zbl 1007.55004)]. An element \(\alpha\) of the target is determined up to \(p\)-torsion by its class function and \(h\)-tuples of commuting \(p\)-power order elements of \(G\). Using this the author shows that \[ \phi_{orb} (M/G) = \frac{1}{| G| } \sum_\alpha (\phi_G (M)) (\alpha) \] is a well defined invariant of the orbifold quotient \(M/G\). Moreover, if the orientation is \(H_\infty\) there is a formula \[ \sum_{n \geq 0} \phi_{orb} (M^n /\Sigma_n) t^n = \exp\biggl( \sum_{k \geq 0} T_{p^k} (\phi (M))t^{{p^k}}\biggr) \] which expresses the total power orbifold genus in terms of the Hecke-Ando operations [see \textit{M. Ando}, Duke Math. J. 79, No. 2, 423--485 (1995; Zbl 0862.55004)] in \(E_h\). These are additive operations which coincide with the stable Adams operations for \(h=1\). The key ingredient is the interpretation of the sum in the definition of \(\phi_{orb}\) in terms of the Strickland inner product [\textit{N.P. Strickland}, Topology 39, No. 4, 733--772 (2000; Zbl 0953.55005)]. The formula is the \(p\)-typical anlogue of a formula of \textit{R. Dijkgraaf, G. Moore, E. Verlinde} and \textit{H. Verlinde} [Commun. Math. Phys. 185, No. 1, 197--209 (1997; Zbl 0872.32006)] which expresses the orbifold elliptic genus of the symmetric powers of a manifold in terms its ordinary genus.
