Let \(A_n\) be the \(n\times n\) matrix whose \((ij)\)th element is 1, if \(i>j\) or \(i= j-1\), and 0 otherwise. Answering a question of M. Fiedler, the author proves that, for all \(n\), there exists a nonnegative symmetric matrix cospectral with \(A_n\).
