The paper describes a higher performance preconditioner suitable for problems in diurnal atmospheric chemistry. This preconditioner is compared to the Jacobi preconditioned method. Comparisons are performed for a small 2 species system, a box model, and a full 3-D chemical-radiative-transport model. The new method is shown to be a viable choice in terms of CPU speed and accuracy achieved in a full model.
