Higgs fields, bundle gerbes and string structures (Q2567483): Difference between revisions

The authors produce an explicit formula for a de Rham representative of the string class of a principal bundle with structure group the loop group. They bring together bundle gerbes [\textit{M. K. Murray}, J. Lond. Math. Soc. 54 (2), 403--416 (1996; Zbl 0867.55019)], string structures and calorons i.e. monopoles for the loop group [\textit{H. K. Garland, M. K. Murray}, Commun. Math. Phys. 120, No. 2, 335--351 (1988; Zbl 0699.53094)]. We mention a method of constructing central extensions [\textit{M. K. Murray, D.
