Let \((A,\mathfrak{m}, k)\) be a Noetherian local ring and let \(M\) be a finitely generated \(A\)-module. In this article, the author studies the reducedness, normality of the symmetric algebra, \(S(M),\) and the Rees algebra, \(R(M),\) of \(M\). If \(M\) is generically free satisfying some local conditions involving \(\alpha_1(M_P)\) (Definition 2.1), and if \(S(M)\) is reduced then \(S(M)\) is \(A\)-torsion free, that is \(S(M)=R(M)\) (Theorem 2.3). Further, if \(A\) is universally catenary normal domain with \(M\) satisfying some local conditions and \(S(M)\) is normal, then \(S_i(M)\) is reflexive, for all \(i \geq 1\) (Theorem 3.2) and recover some known results in the literature. Finally, the author applies the above results to the ideal case.
