The paper is concerned with the applications of the semigroup theory to higher order nonlinear evolution equations. The authors establish some necessary conditions for accretivity of the matrices of operators in the systems reduced from a simple higher order equations. Moreover, some sufficient conditions for matrices of operators to generate one-parameter groups or semigroups and analytic semigroups are proved. The results are applied to Cauchy problems for higher order nonlinear evolution equations.
