The object under consideration is the Dirac operator in \(L^2 (\mathbb R; \mathbb C^2)\) given by \[ L y = i \begin{pmatrix} 1 & 0 \\ 0 & -1 \end{pmatrix} y' - v y, \quad y \in H^1 (\mathbb R; \mathbb C^2). \] Here \(v\) is a potential of the form \[ v = \begin{pmatrix} 0 & v_1 \\ v_2 & 0 \end{pmatrix} \] with square-integrable components. As main result the following spectral enclosure is shown: there exists a continuous, non-negative function \(f \in L^2 (\mathbb R)\) such that \[ |\text{Im}\; \lambda| \leq f (\text{Re}\; \lambda) \] holds for all \(\lambda\) in the spectrum of \(L\). The proof is based on an earlier result by the same authors on Hilbert-Schmidt perturbations of self-adjoint operators in Hilbert spaces.
