Mackey \(\aleph_0\)-barrelled spaces (Q1304620): Difference between revisions

Recall that a locally convex space \(E\) is \(\aleph_0\)-barrelled if every \(\sigma(E',E)\)-bounded union of a sequence of equicontinuous sets in \(E'\) is equicontinuous. The paper contains two results: the first example of an \(\aleph_0\)-barrelled Mackey-space which is not barrelled. Secondly, the splitting theorem of \textit{W. J. Robertson, S. A. Saxon} and \textit{A. P. Robertson} [Bull. Aust. Math. Soc. 37, No. 3, 383-388 (1988; Zbl 0651.46002)] and \textit{S. A. Saxon} and \textit{T. Tweddle} [ibid. 51, No. 3, 521-528 (1995; Zbl 0838.46002)] holds even for \(\aleph_0\)-barrelled Mackey-spaces \(E\): If \((x_i)_{i\in I}\) is a Hamel basis of \(E\) with coefficient functionals \(f_i\) and \(E_C := \text{span} \{x_i \mid f_i\in E'\}\) and \(E_D := \text{span} \{x_i\mid f_i\not\in E'\}\), then \(E = E_C\oplus E_D\) topologically and \(E_C\) has the strongest locally convex topology. Some consequences of this result are given.
