Construction of a robust numerical solver for the impulsively started flow past an arbitrary shaped body is described. The boundary conditions at the body are satisfied with a panel method that uses a novel curved element. The viscous effects are modelled using a combination of the random walk and diffusion velocity techniques. The computational cost is reduced by using a zonal decomposition algorithm for the velocity summation. The code has been validated by using experimental data and other numerical data.
