    Für beschränkte Gebiete \(D, D' \subset \mathbb{C}^n\) mit glattem Rand sei \(f:D \to D'\) eine eigentliche holomorphe Abbildung. Seit langem wird gefragt, ob sich \(f\) zu einer \(C^\infty\)-Abbildung \(\widetilde{f}: \overline{D}\to \overline{D}'\) fortsetzen läßt. Vorliegende Arbeit liefert dazu folgenden Beitrag: sind \(D\), \(D'\) beschränkte Gebiete im \(\mathbb{C}^2\) mit reell-analytischem Rand, so ist jede topologische Abbildung \(f:\overline{D}\to \overline{D}'\), deren Beschränkung \(f:D\to D'\) biholomorph ist, zu einer biholomorphen Abbildung \(\widehat{f}: U\to U'\) fortsetzbar, wobei \(U\) bzw. \(U'\) Umgebungen von \(\overline{D}\) bzw. \(\overline{D}'\) sind. Dieses Ergebnis läßt auch eine lokale Formulierung zu. In einer Folgearbeit [\textit{K. Diederich} und \textit{S. Pinchuk}, Indiana Univ. Math. J. 44, No. 4, 1089-1126 (1995)] ist folgende Verschärfung obigen Resultats enthalten: jede eigentliche holomorphe Abbildung \(f:D\to D'\) ist holomorph in eine Umgebung von \(\overline{D}\) fortsetzbar.
