The equation \[ u_{tt}+\Delta^2 u=| u| ^p u \qquad (p>0) \] is considered. Existence of traveling waves for that equation is derived by using the method of concentrated compactness developed by Lions. In addition, by using the Lyapunov functionals method, the author establishes stability and instability conditions for traveling wave solutions. Stability and instability of the standing wave solutions are also investigated.
