The Marcinkiewicz means are introduced as the arithmetic means with respect to the diagonal of the partial sums of the more-dimensional Walsh-Fourier series. It is stated that the maximal operator \(\sigma^*\) of the Marcinkiewicz means are of weak type \((1,1)\) and that the Marcinkiewicz means of \(f\in L_1\) converge a.e. to \(f\). However, the proof is incomplete, because Lemma 1 is not true in this form. It was stated and proved in a right form in [\textit{F. Weisz}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 348, No. 6, 2169--2181 (1996; Zbl 0857.42016)]. Instead of the weak type \((1,1)\) inequality the author proved that \(\sigma^*\) is bounded from the Hardy space \(H_1\) to \(L_1\) and this does not imply the weak type \((1,1)\) inequality and the a.e. convergence. The weak type \((1,1)\) inequality and the a.e. convergence of Marcinkiewicz means mentioned above were proved earlier by \textit{F. Weisz} [Approximation Theory Appl. 17, 32--44 (2001; Zbl 0992.42013)].
