This is a survey paper on the study of topological quantities in the theory of normal metals related to the works of the authors in the previous decades. After introducing quasiperiodic functions and dynamical systems, the standard model of normal metals is displayed, and then one considers electrons in the magnetic field thought of as dynamical systems on Fermi surfaces. This is the core of the paper. In this framework, new aspects in the topology of quasiperiodic functions are developed. Some conjectures are stated.
