In this paper, the author considers the group of point transformations that conserve the form of the left hand side of an equation \(u_{tt}-u_{xx}=f(u,u_t,u_x)\). It is shown that there are no scalar differential invariants of zero order w.r.t. this group. The general form of first order scalar invariants is obtained. An application of these invariants to the linearization problem of the equations considered is given.
