Es seien \(A\), \(A'\) die Endpunkte einer Hauptachse, \(O\) der Mittelpunkt und \(M\) ein beliebiger Punkt einer Ellipse. Man projiziert \(M\) in \(P\) auf die Gerade \(AA'\) und \(P\) in \(N\) auf die Gerade \(AM\). Der Punkt \(N\) beschreibt die zirkulare rationale Kurve vierter Ordnung \[ (x^2+y^2)\,(b^2\,x^2+a^2y^2)-2ab^2x^3=0; \] ihre Flache ist \(\dfrac{a^2b(a^2+3\,ab+b^2)\pi }{(a+b)^3}\).
