    Es wird die Größenverteilung in einer Population untersucht, deren Individuen sich durch Teilung vermehren. Es werden verschiedene Alternativen für das Eintreten der Teilung diskutiert (Teilung bei bestimmter Größe, größenabhängige Teilungsrate, größenabhängige Teilungswahrscheinlichkeit). Weiter werden auch das Absterben oder die Entnahme von Individuen der Population in Betracht gezogen, und schließlich wird auch eine zeitabhängige Rate des Zellwachstums zugrundegelegt. Aus den sich jeweils ergebenden Modellgleichungen werden Bedingungen dafür aufgestellt, daß sich eine stabile Größenverteilung einstellt, wobei auch Anwendungen auf Zellkulturen betrachtet werden.
