Der Verf. leitet zunächst am ``Prismoid'' (\(\equiv\) ``Prismatoid'') die Inhaltsformel her (die schon oft gegeben ist): \[ (\text{I}) \quad J= \tfrac h6 \left[ \frac{2p-q}{p}\;P+ \frac{2q-p}{q}\;Q+ \frac{(p+q)^2}{pq}\;D_q^p \right], \] wo \(h\) die Höhe, \(P\) die obere, \(Q\) die untere Grundfläche und \(D_q^p\) den zu den Grundflächen parallelen Durchschnitt des Körpers bedeutet, welcher die Höhe \(h\) in zwei Stücke teilt, von denen das obere zum unteren sich wie \(p\) zu \(q\) verhält. Der Verf. setzt dann als ersten besonderen Fall: \(p=q=1\) und findet: \[ J= \tfrac h6 (P+Q+4M), \quad M=D_1^1. \] Zweitens wird gesetzt: \(p=1\), \(q=2\); dann ist \[ J= \tfrac h4 (Q+ 3D_2^1). \] Endlich liefert die allgemeine Formel (I), wenn man \(p\) mit \(q\) vertauscht: \[ (\text{II}) \quad J= \tfrac h6 \left[ \frac{2q-p}{q}\;P+ \frac{2p-q}{p}\;Q+ \frac{(p+q)^2}{pq}\;D_p^q \right]. \] Addiert man dann (I) und (II) und nimmt die Hälfte, so folgt: \[ J=\frac{h}{12pq}\;[(4pq - p^2 -q^2) (P+Q) + (p+q)^2 (D_q^p + D_p^q)]. \] Nimmt man \(p= \sqrt 3 +1\), \(q= \sqrt 3 -1\), so erhält man die Formel: \[ J= \tfrac h2 \left( D_{\sqrt 3 -1}^{\sqrt 3 +1} + D_{\sqrt 3 +1}^{\sqrt 3 -1} \right). \]
