Bedeuten \(p\) und \(q\) bzhw. die kleinste und grösste Sehne, welche die begrenzenden Kreise einer Kugelzone verbinden, so ist das Areal derselben \(\pi pq\). Hieraus kann auch die folgende Formel abgeleitet werden: \[ \sin\frac{\pi}{2n}+\sin\frac{3\pi}{2n}+\cdots+ \sin \frac{(2n - 1)}{2n}=\frac{1}{\sin\frac{\pi}{2n}}\,. \]
