Die Theorie der Farbenringe, welche entstehen, wenn polarisirtes Licht durch eine senkrecht zur Axe geschnittene Platte eines einaxigen Krystalls hindurchgeht, wird in bekannter Art für den Fall entwickelt, dass das einfallende Licht beliebig gegen die Axe geneigt ist. Die resultirende Formel wird benutzt, um aus den angulären Durchmessern der dunklen Ringe die Differenz der Quadrate der Elasticitätsaxen zu berechnen.
