    Es werden die Sylvester'schen und andere Formen der Kreisquadratur hergeleitet aus dem bestimmten Integral \[ \int_0^1 x_n \frac{(x-1)^{m-1}}{(x+1)^{m+1}}dx. \] Durch theilweise Integration erhält man \[ n\int_0^1 x^{n-1}\Biggl( \frac{x-1}{x+1}\Biggr)^mdx=-2m \int_0^1 x^n\frac{(x-1)^{m-1}} {(x+1)^{m+1}}dx \] und \[ \begin{multlined} n\int_0^1 x^{n+1} \frac{(x-1)^{m-1}} {(x+1)^{m+1}} dx-n\int_0^1 x^{n-1} \frac{(x-1)^{m-1}} {(x+1)^{m+1}}dx\\ =-2m\int_0^1 x^n \frac{(x-1)^{m-1}} {(x+1)^{m+1}}dx; \end{multlined} \] setzt man aber für das zweite Integral dieser Gleichung \(\varphi(n)\), so ergiebt sich \[ n\frac{\varphi(n)} {\varphi(n+1)}=2m+ \frac{n(n+1)} {(n+1)\frac {\varphi(n+1)} {\varphi(n+2)}} \] Da der Nenner rechts dieselbe Function für \((n+1)\) ist, wie der Ausdruck links für \(n\), so erhält man durch fortgesetzte Substitution \[ n\frac{\varphi(n)}{\varphi(n+1)}= 2m+ \frac{n(n+1)}{2m}+ \frac{(n+1)(n+2)}{2m}+ \frac{(n+2)(n+3)} {2m+\text{etc.}}. \] Das ist das Fundamentaltheorem in vorliegender Arbeit; der Verfasser zeigt, wie fruchtbar dasselbe für die Herleitung anderer Theoreme ist.
