This paper develops formally alternative descriptions for quantum mechanical equations of motion in analogy with classical bi-Hamiltonian systems. In turn it examines: the classical theory, the Schrödinger picture (including finite level quantum systems); the Heisenberg picture;the Ehrenfest picture; the Weyl-Wigner approach to phase space. All the basic ideas are transparent in the final section 12, where alternative descriptions of the harmonic oscillator are given in the Schrödinger formalism and the Heisenberg picture.
