The authors improve on recent results of \textit{C. Mauduit} and \textit{A. Sárkőzy} [Monatsh. Math. 130, 281--298 (2000; Zbl 1011.11054)] on measures of randomness of sequences of the form \(\chi(n_k \omega)\), where \(\chi\) is the characteristic function of an interval and \((n_k)_k\) is an increasing sequence of integers.
