Let \(\lambda\in\mathbb R\), \(u_0(x)\) and \(h(t)\) be given functions such that \(u_0(0)=h(0)=0\), \(h\in C^1(\mathbb R_+)\) and \(u_0\) lives in a convenient `energy' space. Provided that the `energy' of \(u_0\) is small, and the function \(h\) together with its derivative decays at infinity according to a specific low, the paper under review establishes that the non-linear Schrödinger equation \[ \begin{aligned} &i\partial_t u+\frac12\Delta u=\lambda |u|^2u,\;t,x>0\\ &u(0,x)=u_0(x)~\text{ and }~u(t,0)=h(t)\end{aligned} \] admits a unique global in time solution. The result is based on a more general result concerning the existence of a unique local in time solution of \[ \begin{aligned} &i\partial_t u+\frac12\Delta u=\lambda |u|^{p-1}u,\;t,x>0\\ &u(0,x)=u_0(x)~\text{ and }~u(t,0)=h(t)\end{aligned} \] such that maximal time \(T\) can be selected arbitrarily large, provided that the `energy' of \(u_0\) is sufficiently small.
