Given two objects $M$ and $N$ in an abelian category, $N$ is called $M$-Rickart (resp., dual $M$-Rickart) if for every morphism $f : M \rightarrow N$, $\mathrm{Ker}(f)$ (resp., $\mathrm{Im}(f)$) is a direct summand of $M$ (resp., $N$). This notion was introduced in [\textit{S. Crivei} and \textit{A. Kör}, Appl. Categ. Struct. 24, No. 6, 797--824 (2016; Zbl 1366.18010)]. \par In the article under review, the authors prove several results concerning the preservation of the Rickart and the dual Rickart properties under additive functors of abelian categories satisfying further assumptions, such as being left or right exact, or having an adjoint (see Theorems 2.3, 2.9, 2.11 and 2.12). They then apply these results to study the Baer and dual Baer properties, which are a particular instance of the Rickart and the dual Rickart properties, and were also introduced in the article mentioned previously. \par Finally, the authors study the (resp., dual) self-Rickart and the (resp., dual) self-Baer properties of a module in terms of its endomorphism ring (see Theorem 4.3 and Corollary 4.4), considering also the case of a graded module and its (internal) endomorphism ring (see Corollaries 4.5 and 4.6).
