The authors continue the discussion of pseudo-identities (for short pi) begun in a previous paper by the last two authors [Arch. Math. 41, 204- 214 (1983; Zbl 0525.20021)]. We remind that by a pseudo-identity of the group G it is meant an automorphism \(\phi\) of G such that for each \(x\in G\) there exists a finitely generated subgroup \(K_ x\) of G such that \(x\in K_ x\) and the restriction of \(\phi\) to \(K_ x\) is an automorphism of \(K_ x\). In the present paper the authors are concerned with homotopy-theoretical aspects of the notion of pseudo-idetities. They apply their results to the study of self-maps of fibrations and to self- maps of nilpotent spaces. They start by proving that a pi of the locally nilpotent group G induces a pi of its homology groups, which is not in general true for arbitrary groups. Then, they prove their theorems under assumptions of simple connectivity or nilpotency conditions.
