Let \(C\) be an irreducible, smooth, complex projective curve, let \(S^n(C)\) be its \(n\)-th symmetric power, and let \(\Delta_n =\{(D,x) \in S^n(C) \times C\;|\;x \in D\} \) be be universal effective divisor of degree \(n\) on \(S^n(C) \times C\). Given a vector bundle \(E\) of rank \(r\) on \(C\) one can consider \(\mathcal F_n(E): = q_{1*}(q_2^*(E)|_{\Delta_n})\), where \(q_i\) is the projection of \(S^n(C) \times C\) onto the \(i\)-th factor. \(\mathcal F_n(E)\) is a vector bundle of rank \(nr\), many properties of which have been studied in the literature, in particular the reconstruction of \(E\) via the Harder--Narasimhan filtration of a suitable pullback of \(\mathcal F_n(E)\). In line with this, in this paper the authors prove the following. Let \(E_1\) and \(E_2\) be two semistable vector bundles on \(C\) and suppose that \(C\) has genus \(\geq 2\). If \(\mathcal F_n(E_1)\) and \(\mathcal F_n(E_2)\) are isomorphic for a fixed \(n\), then \(E_1\) and \(E_2\) are isomorphic.
