It is shown that the breaking of abelian gauge symmetry implies the existence of dipole singularities \(\delta'(k^ 2)\) in the correlation functions of abelian Higgs model. An explicit example of gauge symmetry breaking -- Ferrari's model -- is discussed. By considering this model it is shown that the noninvariance of Wightman functions under global gauge transformations does not necessarily exclude the implementability of these transformations.
