A computerized simulation of a gear mechanism with enveloping gear tooth surfaces is presented. The transfer point for misaligned gear drives, where the point contact starts instead of a line contact, and the contact ellipses have been determined, among other things. As an example, a misaligned worm-gear drive is analyzed showing that the transformation of motion is accompanied by a periodic function of the transmission errors leading to a jump of angular velocity and acceleration of the driven worm-gear that might be a source of vibrations. The systematic simulation of meshing and contact of gear tooth surfaces turns out to be very useful for modern gear design and technology.
