The purpose of this paper is to formulate and prove some results concerning the foliations which are invariant under transverse actions of Lie groups. Contents of this work: foliations with Lie transverse structure, foliations invariant under a transverse local action, solvable groups, holomorphic foliations, codimension one algebraic foliations, examples, complements. Let \(F\) be a codimension \(q\) foliation on a differentiable manifold \(M\), and \(G\) a Lie group of \(\dim G=\text{codim\,}F= q\). \(F\) is invariant under a transverse action of the group \(G\) if there is an action \(\Phi: G\times M\to M\) such that: 1) the action is transverse to \(F\), and 2) \(\Phi\) leaves \(F\) invariant (\(\Phi_g: x\to \Phi(g,x)\) takes leaves of \(F\) onto leaves of \(F\)). The authors obtain an algebraic model for any foliated manifold assuming that \(F\) satisfies this condition. Let \(L\) be a leaf of \(F\), and \(H(L)= \{g\in G\mid \phi(g,l)\in L,\,\forall l\in L\}\). The authors give an algebraic model for the general foliation invariant under a transverse Lie group action. They prove a fibration theorem: ``Let \(M\) be a connected manifold and \(F\) a foliation in \(M\) which is invariant under a transverse action of a Lie group \(G\). Then the following statements are equivalent: a) \(F\) has a leaf \(L\) which is closed in \(M\); b) \(H(L)\) is a discrete (i.e. closed and zero-dimensional) subgroup of \(G\); c) The projection \(\pi: G\times L\to G\) onto the first factor induces a smooth filtration \(M\approx G\times_{H(L)} L\to G/H(L)\), of which the fibres are the leaves of \(F\).'' Some additional consequences of this theorem are given. The authors give a analoguous study for holomorphic foliations.
