The author proposes a hybrid-Trefftz stress element and shows that it is consistent with relevant energy theorems of elastostatics. In a further investigation it has been shown that the displacement frame based hybrid-Trefftz element should be classified as a hybrid stress element. Several examples illustrate the advatages gained by the implementation of discontinuous boundary approximations.
