We study the integrability and the convergence in the \(L^ 1(0,1)\)- metric of Walsh series \(\sum^{\infty}_{k=0}a_ kw_ k(x)\), where \(\{a_ k\}\) is a null sequence of bounded variation. Our basic tool is the following Sidon type inequality: for every \(1<p\leq 2\), sequence \(\{a_ k\}\) of real numbers, and integer \(n\geq 1\), we have \[ \int^{1}_{0}| \sum^{n}_{k=1}a_ kD_ k(x)| dx\leq C_ pn^{1-1/p}[\sum^{n}_{k=1}| a_ k|^ p]^{1/p}, \] where \(D_ k(x)=\sum^{k-1}_{j=0}w_ j(x)\) is the Dirichlet kernel for the Walsh system and \(C_ p=2p/(p-1)\).
