It is known that for the Cauchy problem for first order quasilinear hyperbolic systems, singularities of solutions may appear in finite time even if the initial data are smooth and sufficiently small. In this paper the authors prove the existence and uniqueness of global smooth solutions of the Cauchy problem for quasilinear hyperbolic systems with some kind of dissipative terms by requiring such condition as row or column diagonal dominant on the matrix of the system.
