The notion of \(k\)-strict convexity, a generalization of the notion of strict convexity, was introduced by \textit{I.~Singer} in [Acad.\ Républ.\ Popul.\ Roum., Rev.\ Math.\ Pur.\ Appl.\ 5, 383--402 (1960; Zbl 0122.34801)]: a Banach space \(X\) is called \(k\)-strictly convex if for any \(x_0,x_1,\ldots,x_k\) in \(S_X\) (the unit sphere of \(X\)), \(\| x_0+\ldots+x_k\| =1\) implies that \(x_0,x_1,\ldots,x_k\) are linearly independent. The dual notion of \(k\)-smoothness was introduced by \textit{C.--X.\ Nan} and \textit{J.--H.\ Wang} [Chin.\ Ann.\ Math., Ser.\ A 11, No.~3, 321--324 (1990; Zbl 0721.46015)]. In the present paper, the author defines the \(k\)-super strongly convex (resp., \(k\)-super strongly smooth) spaces by adding to the notion of \(k\)-strict convexity (resp., \(k\)-smoothness) the following: If \(x\in S_X\), \((x_n)\) is a sequence in \(B_X\) such that for every \(\delta>0\) there exists a positive integer \(N(\delta)\) with co\((\{ x \}\cup\{ x_n:n\geq N(\delta) \})\cap(1-\delta)B_X=\varnothing\), then \(\{ x_n:n\in \mathbb{N} \}\) is relatively compact (resp., if \(x\in S_X\), \(x^*\in S_{X^*}\) such that \(x^*(x)=1\), and \((x^*_n)\) is a sequence in \(B_{X^*}\) such that for every \(\delta>0\) there exists a positive integer \(N(\delta)\) with co\((\{ x^* \}\cup\{ x^*_n:n\geq N(\delta) \})\cap(1-\delta)B_{X^*}=\varnothing\), then \(\{ x^*_n:n\in \mathbb{N} \}\) is relatively compact) and proves that new classes are defined. It is also proved that for every \(k\geq 2\) there exist infinite-dimensional \(k\)-super strongly convex (resp., \(k\)-super strongly smooth) spaces which are not \((k-1)\)-super strongly convex (resp., \((k-1)\)-super strongly smooth. Šmulyan-type relationships and connections to some Kadec--Klee-type properties are also studied.
