Gaussian beam propagation in dissipative solids (Q1338718): Difference between revisions

The problem of determination of the wave field with the given displacement or its normal derivative on a plane field is discussed in a dissipative solid. Assuming the wave motion to be time-harmonic, the field equations are reduced to a first-order system which reduces to a matrix eigenvalue problem for a homogeneous medium. The evolution of the angular spectrum and Gaussian beam is discussed. In case of wide beams, the dispersion and attenuation of the beam are obtained in terms of the material properties of the solid.
