The authors apply the distribution theory due to Schwarz to the problem of beam bending under singular loading conditions and in the presence of various jump discontinuities. The main contribution of the paper is that it offers a deeper understanding of the mathematical description of this class of structured problems. Basic definitions and theorems of Schwarz's distribution theory, together with some mathematical details, are given in appendices.
