The author has previously used step algebras to study the discrete series of any complex Lie algebra containing a reductive subalgebra of the same rank [Math. Scand. 41, 63-78 (1977; Zbl 0373.17006)]. This work is generalized to Lie superalgebras and exemplified by the superalgebra \({\mathfrak sl}(n,1)\), having even part \({\mathfrak gl}(n)\).
