A simply connected finite CW-complex \(X\) is elliptic if the loop space homologies of \(X\) (with coefficients in \(\mathbb{Z}_ p\) and in \(\mathbb{Q}\)) grow at most polynomially. In [Bull. Am. Math. Soc., New Ser. 25, No. 1, 69-73 (1991; Zbl 0726.55006)], the authors prove that elliptic spaces have the homotopy type of a finite Poincaré complex and the homology of their loop space is a left Noetherian ring. In this paper, they show that non-elliptic spaces have a loop space homology which grows at least semi-exponentially. They exhibit also geometric classes of elliptic spaces, including homogeneous spaces, Dupin hypersurfaces in \(S^{n+1}\).
