The goal of the paper is to study the problem of the freeness of a conic-line arrangement (a collection of smooth rational plane curves). It is of course similar to the freeness of an hyperplane arrangement. The authors prove that some deletion-contraction rules work also in this case for a large class of arrangements. They finally give examples to disprove the Terao conjecture that freeness is combinatorial in this more general setting.
