The authors consider the bounded linear surjections \(\Phi\) between two \(C^{\ast}\)-algebras \({\mathcal A}\) and \({\mathcal B}\) which preserve the zeros of a Jordan product. When \({\mathcal A}\) is unital, it is shown that any such surjection equals a Jordan homomorphism, multiplied by an invertible central element in \({\mathcal B}\). More precisely: If \(ab+ba=0\) implies \(\Phi(a)\Phi(b)+\Phi(b)\Phi(a)=0\), then \(\Phi(x)=\Phi(1)J(x)\), with \(\Phi(1)\) invertible and in the center of \({\mathcal B}\), and with \(J:{\mathcal A}\to{\mathcal B}\) a surjective Jordan homomorphism. Similar results are also obtained (i) for (possibly noncontinuous) additive surjections between algebras \({\mathcal B}(H)\) and \({\mathcal B}(K)\), where \(H,K\) are infinite-dimensional real or complex Hilbert spaces, and (ii) for unital additive surjections \(\Phi:{\mathcal A}\to {\mathcal B}\) between standard operator Banach algebras on infinite-dimensional Banach spaces \(X\) and \(Y\).
