For the arithmetic-geometric mean inequality for unitarily invariant norms on \(M_n\) \[ 2|A^* XB |\leq |AA^*X + XBB^* |\quad \text{for all} \quad A,B,X \in M_n \tag{1} \] several different proofs have been given. The purpose of this paper is to show that a generalization of (1) is an immediate consequence of a basic inequality for singular values of Hadamard products.
