The authors deal with various questions concerning the steady states of the phase field system with memory and their stability under a variety of restrictions on the memory kernels. To this end the authors use a comparison of the predictions for a phase field system with memory with those of a related classical phase field model. By suitably restricting the memory kernels, the authors show that the (weak) \(\omega\)-limit set of any initial condition contains only steady states and linear stability leads to nonlinear stability.
