The authors study a fourth-order thermoelastic plate system of Kirchhoff type with two temperatures (i.e., the thermodynamic and the conductive temperature). Based on semigroup arguments, they investigate the well-posedness of the corresponding system of partial differential equations for heat conduction of Fourier type and of Cattaneo type. Then they analyze the asymptotic behaviour as time tends to infinity in terms of polynomial decay rates by means of pointwise estimates of the solutions in Fourier space. The rates are optimal and a loss of regularity is observed while turning from the Fourier to the Cattaneo model.
