    This paper deals with a family of Cauchy problems for nonlocal conservation laws in the form \[ \left\{\!\!\!\!\!\!\!\! \begin{array}{ll} & \partial_t u_\varepsilon+\partial_x[V(u_\varepsilon*\eta_\varepsilon)u_\varepsilon]=0,\\ &u_\varepsilon(0,\cdot) = u_0, \end{array} \right. \] with \[ \begin{array}{ll} &V\in \mathrm{Lip}(\mathbb{R}),\quad V'\le 0,\\ &\eta_\varepsilon(x) := \varepsilon \eta\left({x}/{\varepsilon}\right),\quad \eta\in L^1(\mathbb{R})\cap L^\infty(\mathbb{R}),\quad \operatorname{supp}(\eta)\subset \mathbb{R}_-,\quad\Vert \eta\Vert_{L^1(\mathbb{R})}=1,\\ &\eta\text{ is non-negative, non-decreasing, convex},\\ &u_0 \in L^\infty(\mathbb{R}), \quad 0\le u_0\le 1. \end{array} \] The authors prove a convergence result to the unique entropy solution of the conservation law \[ \left\{\!\!\!\!\!\!\!\! \begin{array}{ll} & \partial_t u+\partial_x[V(u)u]=0,\\ &u(0,\cdot) = u_0. \end{array} \right. \] Moreover, they exhibit a counter-example showing that the convexity assumption is necessary for their main compactness estimate.
