Denote by \(\langle\langle G,X,\pi \rangle\rangle\) a topological transformation group, i.e. \(G\) is a topological group, \(X\) is a topological space and \(\pi : G\times X\to X\) is a continuous action. A linear \(G\)-space is, by definition, a transformation group \(\langle\langle G,V,\sigma \rangle\rangle\) where \(V\) is a separable locally convex topological linear space and \(\sigma^ t \forall t\in G\) is an element of \(\text{GL}(V)\). Different proofs of the following principal theorem were suggested by several authors: \textit{O. Hajek} [Funkc. Ekvacioj, Ser. Int. 14, 25--34 (1971; Zbl 0228.54039)], \textit{Yu. M. Smirnov} [Russ. Math. Surv. 31, 198--209 (1976); translation from Usp. Mat. Nauk 31, No. 5(191), 137--147 (; Zbl 0362.57021)]; \textit{J. de Vries} [Topological transformation groups. I. Mathematical Centre Tracts. 65. Amsterdam: Mathematisch Centrum (1975; Zbl 0315.54002)]. Theorem. Let \(G\) be a locally compact Hausdorff group. Then the following conditions for a transformation group \(\langle\langle G,X,\pi \rangle\rangle\) are equivalent: (i) there exists such a linear \(G\)-space \(\langle\langle G,V,\sigma \rangle\rangle\) and such a topological embedding \(i: X\hookrightarrow V\) that \(\sigma^ t\circ i=i\circ \pi^ t\) \(\forall t\in G\); (ii) there exists an embedding of \(X\) into a topological vector space; (iii) X is a Tikhonov space. It is shown in the present paper that the known proofs of this theorem are modifications of a general unified construction. It is also given a categorical framework of the proof as well as certain of its modifications.
