After showing how the singular integral equation \[ \varphi(x)=-{1\over 2\pi} \int^{2\pi}_0 \log\Biggl(4\sin^2{\xi- x\over 2}\Biggr) (K\varphi)(\xi)\,d\xi+ f(x)\quad (0\leq x\leq 2\pi), \] with \(\varphi\), \(f\in H^p[0, 2\pi]\) \((p> 1/2)\), \(\varphi(0)= \varphi(2\pi)\), \(f(0)= f(2\pi)\), and \(K\) a continuous (linear or nonlinear) operator, is derived from certain two-dimensional potential problem, the authors analyze its approximation by projection methods in the space of trigonometric polynomials of order \(n\). The main tool in the derivation of properties of the approximate solution \(\varphi_n\) is Schauder's fixed-point theorem.
